Strange Searches
July 25th, 2005 @ 5:39 pm by zymetricAt least once a month we sit down and sort through all of the searches conducted through our site. Sifting through this data gives us an invaluable insight into what our customers (and potential customers) are looking for, and how effectively we are providing them with that information. Analyzing this aggregate data also allows us to improve the usability of our site, by spotting trends and adding new products that people are actively looking for, tweaking the relevance of such searches (in terms of what products are displayed with in what searches, in what order), improving the manner in which this data for different queries is grabbed from databases and displayed, and so on.
Searches for “shock pens” or “stink bombs” ….., or even generic searches such as “glasses” or “fart” or ….., account for about 95% of the total, and are not that unusual on the surface (unless of course you consider it unusual for a company to generate a hefty pile of its revenues from selling fake dog poop or mooning party shorts).
Simply put, the other 5% of these searches however, are little more than shits and giggles, and serve no other purpose than to amuse us. As the number of searches performed continues to increase month after month, the oddball searches keep getting more and more interesting — far too interesting not to share.
Some are funny, and others are disturbing, and some make little sense whatsoever given the products that we do carry (even the strange products). Below is a list of the most interesting 25 searches people entered into Zymetrical.com for June, 2005.
